SPAM Settings

Toggle Spam Assassin Status

  2. Click the Mail Options menu item if it is not already open.
  3. Click the Spam Settings menu item.
  4. Click the On radio button next to Spam Assassin staus to turn Spam Assassin on.
  5. You will see the following message at the top of the screen: SpamAssassin Status Updated.
The user can set two delivery options for e-mail messages that are tagged as Spam. When an e-mail message is tagged as Spam, the message is assigned a "spam score". This score is related to how "sure" the software is that the message is actually spam. The higher the spam score, the more certain the software is that the message is indeed Spam.

The first option is to deliver the tagged spam message to a "Spam" IMAP folder, if the user has one created for their e-mail box. If the user does not have a Spam IMAP folder, the spam message will be delivered to the user's Inbox. No Spam is ever deleted before it reaches the user.

The second option is to specify a maximum spam score that will still allow messages to be delivered. E-mail messages assigned a spam score higher than this limit will be deleted upon arrival, and the user will never see them.

Message subject "rewritten"

When an e-mail message is tagged as Spam, you can choose to have the e-mail message subject "rewritten" with a text indicating that the message is Spam. This makes it easier for the user to identify Spam messages visually, and to use some e-mail clients to filter Spam messages easily.

Purpose

When an e-mail message is tagged as Spam, there are a few different ways the Spam tagging software can alter the message format.

The first option is to make to changes at all to the spam-tagged message, and deliver it as normal mail.

The second option is to create a new "report" message, and attach the original message as an attachment to this new message.

The third option is to create a new report, and attach the original message in "text only" mode. This can make opening attachments in the spam-tagged message difficult, which may be considered a good thing for the average user, since attachments on messages that are probably spam may be harmful, especially if the message is a virus.
