We've added Refer a Friend to the CR Servers client area. If you already have active services with us, you can share a personal referral link or code with friends and colleagues.

How it works

Your code:
REF
plus your client ID (for example,
REF1234
).

For your friend: 5% off their first eligible order (VPS and web hosting; domain-only orders are excluded).

For you: account credit toward your CR Servers invoices after they pay — not withdrawable as cash.

Save 10% When You Pay with Bitcoin or Lightning

Bitcoin is the internet’s native payment rail — no chargeback fraud, no processor commissions, lower costs for everyone. New accounts now save 10% paying in Bitcoin or over Lightning.

Card networks and bank rails were built for a different era: chargebacks, 3% processor fees, slow cross-border settlement, and costs that get passed down to customers. Bitcoin fixes that. It settles peer-to-peer, in minutes on-chain or seconds over the Lightning Network, with no middleman taking a cut — which makes it cheaper for us to accept and for you to pay.

Why paying in Bitcoin is better

No fraud: payments are final and irreversible — no chargeback risk for anyone

No commissions: we settle through our own BTCPay Server, with no third-party processor fees

Lower costs for all parties: fewer fees on our side, and we pass the savings to you

Fast & borderless: minutes on-chain, seconds over Lightning, from anywhere in the world

Because Bitcoin costs us less to accept, we share that benefit directly: new accounts get 10% off every invoice paid in Bitcoin or over Lightning — on your initial order and every renewal you pay the same way. Select Bitcoin or Lightning at checkout and the discount applies automatically. We’ve accepted Bitcoin since 2013 (a first in Costa Rica) and run our own node, so this is simply how we prefer to do business.

Already a customer? This promotion applies to new accounts. Accounts already on earlier or grandfathered pricing aren’t included — we appreciate your loyalty, and if you have questions about your account, please open a support ticket and our team will help.

How to pay: from your client portal, choose Bitcoin / Lightning at checkout. Lightning settles in seconds; on-chain is supported too. Full steps: how to pay with Bitcoin →

We also accept Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal — but only Bitcoin and Lightning earn the 10% discount.

    Browse products & order

The 10% discount applies to invoices paid with Bitcoin or the Lightning Network on eligible new accounts and is calculated at checkout. Accounts on prior or grandfathered pricing are not eligible. Other payment methods (Visa, Mastercard, PayPal) do not qualify.

We've Upgraded Your Hosting Platform

We're excited to announce that we have completed a comprehensive upgrade to our shared web hosting platform. Your account has been migrated to a brand-new, more powerful server with significant improvements in security, performance, and features.

What's New

Enhanced Security

ImunifyAV Malware Scanner — Professional antivirus protection now actively scans your hosting account for malware, backdoors, web shells, and other threats.

CageFS Isolation — Your account runs in its own secure, isolated environment. Other accounts on the server cannot access your files.

Advanced Firewall (CSF) — Enterprise-grade firewall with automatic brute-force protection for your email, FTP, and control panel logins.

Free SSL Certificates — Let's Encrypt SSL is now automatically issued and renewed for all your domains at no extra cost.

Encrypted Email — Full SSL/TLS support for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP connections, keeping your email communications private.

Better Performance

New Server Hardware — Our new server features significantly more memory and storage capacity, meaning faster load times for your website.

Modern Operating System — CloudLinux 9, an enterprise-grade OS with the latest security patches, supported through 2032.

Fair Resource Allocation — CloudLinux LVE technology ensures that no single account can consume all server resources, keeping performance consistent for everyone.

Updated Software Stack — Apache 2.4.66, MariaDB 10.11, and the latest PHP versions (5.2 through 8.5) for maximum compatibility and speed.

Upgraded Control Panel

InterWorx 8 — A completely refreshed, modern control panel interface that's easier to navigate.

Multi-PHP Support — Choose your preferred PHP version per domain (PHP 5.2 through 8.5) directly from your control panel.

PHPMyAdmin 5.2 — The latest version for managing your MySQL databases.

Roundcube Webmail — A modern, responsive webmail client for accessing your email from any browser.

Email Improvements

Spam Filtering — Proxmox Mail Gateway provides enterprise-grade spam and virus filtering before messages reach your inbox.

Improved Deliverability — New server IP with clean reputation for better email delivery rates.

What You Need to Do

In most cases, no action is required on your part. Your website, email, databases, and files have been migrated automatically.

However, please note:

If you use a desktop email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc.), you may be prompted to accept the new SSL certificate. Simply accept it to continue.

If you experience any issues accessing your account or services, please open a support ticket and we'll assist you promptly.

Questions?

We're here to help. If you have any questions about the upgrade or notice anything unusual with your hosting service, don't hesitate to contact our support team.

Thank you for choosing CR Servers. We're committed to providing you with reliable, secure hosting backed by local expertise.

From: Leda Mora
Subject: Meeting on January 21, 2015

We are pleased to invite you to the meeting that will take place on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:30 a.m. at Club Unión. On this occasion, we will have the collaboration of Mr. Arturo D’Elia, an IT specialist at M2 Systems, an enthusiast of Bitcoin Blockchain, aviation, travel, finance, and technology, and Eng. Rodrigo Fernández, President of Sistemas Edenia Internacional. They will present on:

“Bitcoin – Experiences and Applications in Argentina”

Money is an ancient abstraction that replaced bartering as a means of payment for commercial exchange. We generally conceive money as the socially accepted means for paying goods, services, and debts. For centuries, money was minted in metals, in terms of which the prices of goods and services were expressed. Until the 20th century, paper money was backed by valuable metals and minerals. Today, physical money is issued by states and its value is based on the trust the public places in its acceptance as a means of payment, not on the value of the material used to manufacture it.

‘Electronic’ or ‘digital’ payment methods have emerged over the past decades: electronic funds transfers, payment services on public networks, payments guaranteed by bank accounts or credit cards, ‘smart’ cards, etc. Digital money is exchanged through computers or digital devices, networks, and cryptographic mechanisms to protect the transfer and storage of data. Cards with ‘chips’ or mobile phones can store limited amounts of digital money, similar to a wallet.

Pseudo-anonymous digital money schemes have appeared, such as Bitcoin, which rely on cryptographic schemes without backing from any government. It is a distributed (‘peer-to-peer’) system in which users transact without intermediaries. Transactions are verified by nodes in the network and recorded in a public and distributed ledger called the ‘blockchain’.

This conference will explain the nature of Bitcoin, the decentralized network, the currency, its security scheme, the blockchain technology and the problem it solves, the guarantees that the technology provides in terms of value transfer, etc. Bitcoin and similar schemes have significant disruptive potential in today's world and raise many questions, but they also offer multiple applications and have interesting implications in countries like Argentina, where the use of Bitcoin has been encouraged as a way to mitigate the negative effects of the economy on citizens and businesses.

The following professionals will benefit from this conference: General Managers, Financial Managers, Commercial Managers, Technology Managers, Directors of Technology Companies, Business Development Managers, Directors of Innovation, Research and Development, Digital Entrepreneurs, Consultants, and Professionals in ICT, Finance, and Auditing.

Please confirm your attendance with Leda Mora, phone 2223-5923, fax 2223-1997, email leda@clubdeinvestigacion.com

CR Servers is happy to announce a new partnership with CloudFlare, the web’s easiest performance and security solution. As a CloudFlare Certified Partner, we deliver their simple and free solution to help protect and accelerate your website. Once your website joins the CloudFlare community, it loads twice as fast and is protected from a range of online threats.

Getting started is super easy—you just need to log into your control panel and look for the CloudFlare icon. With two clicks, you can activate CloudFlare and your website will automatically be faster and safer around the world.

We are pleased to offer you the CloudFlare service for FREE. There is no commitment. Turning CloudFlare on and off takes two clicks of the mouse, so feel free to try it out. We think you’ll like it.

To learn more about CloudFlare, you can watch the introductory video here and take a look at their blog. We are delighted to offer this great service to you and help make your website faster and safer.

CloudFlare Railgun™

As a CloudFlare Optimized Partner, we are thrilled to offer the CloudFlare Railgun™ technology to all our customers for FREE. Railgun is CloudFlare’s latest performance optimization technology that gives you significant improvements in site load times. To activate Railgun, log into your control panel and select Railgun “On”. Read on for additional details and instructions:

Railgun ensures that the connection between our network and the CloudFlare network is as fast as possible. Railgun achieves a 99.6% compression ratio for previously uncacheable web objects by using techniques similar to those used in the compression of high-quality video. The average website can expect a 1.43x performance increase.

When a request is made to a CloudFlare server for a web page that is not in cache CloudFlare makes an HTTP connection to the origin server to request the page. It's that HTTP connection that Railgun accelerates and secures.

Even highly dynamic websites change slowly

Railgun works by recognizing that uncacheable web pages do not change very rapidly. For example, during an experiment, the CNN.com homepage HTML was captured once, and then again after 5 minutes and then again after one hour. The page sizes were 92,516, five minutes still 92,516 and one hour later 93,727.

CNN sets the caching on this page to 60 seconds. After one minute, it is necessary to download the entire page again. However, looking inside the page, not much has changed. In fact, the change between versions is on the order of 100s of bytes out of almost 100k. Here’s a screenshot of one of the binary differences between the CNN home page at five minute intervals. The yellow bytes have changed, the rest have not.

Experiments at CloudFlare have revealed similar change values across the web. For example, reddit.com changes by about 2.15% over five minutes and 3.16% over an hour. The New York Times home page changes by about 0.6% over five minutes and 3% over an hour. BBC News changes by about 0.4% over five minutes and 2% over an hour.

Although the dynamic web is not cacheable, it is also not changing quickly. That means that from moment to moment there’s only a small change between versions of a page. CloudFlare Railgun uses this fact to achieve very high rates of compression. This is very similar to how video compression looks for changes from frame to frame; Railgun looks for changes on a page from download to download.

Railgun Technology

Railgun consists of two components: the sender and the listener. The sender is installed at every CloudFlare data center around the world. The listener is a software component that CR Servers has installed on our network for customers.

The sender and listener establish a permanent TCP connection that’s secured by TLS. This TCP connection is used for the Railgun protocol. It’s an all binary multiplexing protocol that allows multiple HTTP requests to be run simultaneously and asynchronously across the link. Or in other words, a persistent connection is opened between CloudFlare’s network and ours and eliminates the overhead of TCP.

We have made it simple for our customers to get the benefits of Railgun with one click. For additional information and instructions on how to activate, visit our CloudFlare FAQ knowledge base page.

CR Servers has been informed of a preventive maintenance window that will be undertaken by the consortium that operates the MAYA-1 submarine cable.

The maintenance work will begin on Friday September 26 at 10pm (GMT -6) and will finalize at 6am (GMT -6) on Sunday September 28, 2014.

The estimated impact of this maintenance window is considered to be minimal as the remaining capacity for international traffic should be enough to support normal traffic over the weekend.

However, due to an increased utilization of available capacity, during peak traffic hours , there is an expected increase in service latency.

We use the Sophos UTM firewall to prevent exploits that lead to data loss or theft, infected computers, and other events that interfere with the operation of your site.

This firewall uses several methods to ensure that no unwanted traffic will be allowed to pass, including stateful packet filters, application-level deep packet filtering and network address translation.

Deep-packet inspection identifies and removes malicious content before it enters by using a constantly updated database to ensure protection against the latest threats. Application and protocol related probes and attacks are prevented.

Flood protection provides a defense against DoS, DDoS and portscan attacks.

There are 13 original Internet servers installed around the world (A-M). There can be no more than 13 due to technical limitations. However, clones are created that are identical to the original. Our new server in Costa Rica is a clone of the L root server. Having one in-country will greatly improve the stability and performance of the internet for all users and traffic originating in Costa Rica.

UN General Assembly Resolution 60/252, page 3:
13. Decides to proclaim 17 May annual World Information Society Day to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communications technologies can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.

Alrighty then, so where does the world stand in relation to internet access? According to Internet World Stats, (using data from December 31, 2011) out of a worldwide population of 6,930,055,154, internet users number 2,267,233,742. That is 32.7 % of the earth's humans online. (Other primates are accessing the internet at a few of the zoos, but that is a different story) This is a 528.1 % increase from internet usage in the year 2000.

OK, so where and when did the internet start?

First network equipment
The first network switch was called "IMP", (Interface Message Processor) and was sent to UCLA. On September 2, 1969 the first data moves from UCLA host to the switch.

On Friday October 29, 1969 at 10:30 p.m., the first Internet message was sent from computer science Professor Leonard KleinRock's laboratory at UCLA, this is also considered to be the first Internet backbone.

The first message was "LO", which was an attempt at "LOGIN" by Charley S.
Google releases Penguin search engine update, What should you do?

The recent Penguin update was implemented a few weeks ago from Google. The changes can be confusing, and if you don't adapt properly, your ranking may be penalized. Penguin was designed to target webspam tactics, and you may have inadvertently broken the new rules. Web engines are still adapting to the new system, so even if you haven't suffered a loss of traffic yet, don't assume you're safe. Here are a few suggestions that will keep you safe and possibly improve your ranking:

1. Write good content first, tweak for keyword density afterwards.
Your primary objective should be a good read. Then you may be able to edit a bit and add in a few key words, but don't let the readability suffer.

2. Use a variety of word and phrases for Anchor text.
The anchor text, link label, link text, or link title is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink. The words contained in the anchor text can determine the ranking that the page will receive by search engines. Do not reuse keywords to excess. Yes, you need to be consistent, but you can probably come up with another phrase or word that gets your point across. Never use "Click here" as it is ignored by Google and is a wasted opportunity to promote your content.

3. Make sure that the vast majority of links on your site are high quality.
Google is now penalizing you if your site contains a significant proportion of "unnatural links". These are paid links, splogs, etc. A few exchanged links probably won't hurt, as long as the majority are useful and of high quality. Even some of these may no longer be useful to your ranking if they are linked to other low quality sites. It may be time for you to do some pruning.

4. Make a critical assessment of your pages and perform drastic surgery if required.
Quality, quality, quality, that's what Google likes. Delete pages that don't provide it, or combine the content with other pages if you need to retain it. Ask some people that you trust to tell you the truth to examine your pages. Listen to what they say. Don't spare the knife; it will only hurt worse later. Add content to the high quality pages. You know, the ones that actually provide some value to your readers or customers and aren't just one long sales pitch or placeholder for ads. Keep your audience happy and bring them back for more.

A.K.A. Farmer's update, as referred to by SEOs who believe this change was made to de-emphasize websites with more ads than content. There are many unhappy webmasters after this update, who have seen their traffic plummet. In fact, 12% of Google searches have been affected by this change, but there are steps you can take to minimize the impact on your website.

1. Make sure each page has quality content, no cutting and pasting unedited from other sites. Rewrite the content so that it is seen as unique. Try to go deeper into your subject and provide useful links.

2. Remove any pages that can't be rewritten to provide quality. A few bad pages can bring down your ratings.

3. Remove duplicate content. Make every page count.

4. Don't make visitors register to see content; this will bring down your ratings.

5. Well designed (pretty) sites hold your visitors’ attention longer, they will stick around to read more and this improves your ratings.

6. Links still matter. Make your site easy to link to and request that other quality sites link to you.

7. Use Twitter. Links in Twitter improve your ranking. Also make sure to respond to other people, as you need to participate on Twitter to improve your traffic. Get others to spread your links. Again, this will only happen if you have unique, quality content. Put up an avatar or a portrait and use a Twitter name that doesn't include numbers. Also, complete your bio information and use a URL that differs from the one you are promoting. Don't forget that tweets go 'stale' so add some new content every few weeks (or better yet, blog and encourage comments) and retweet those links.

8. Put content before the ads, as in higher on the page. The Google Page layout algo will penalize you if the ads come first.
